As many of you already know, I’ve been writing a book about the world of camgirls. It’s an extraordinary and fascinating world, full of girls with all kinds of stories to tell. Most of these girls make a living from a camera hooked up to the Internet. Some have even become internationally known. When you ask most people if they’ve ever heard of a site like Jenni, Kimi or Ana, they’ll admit that yes, they have.

It takes a special kind of person to be a camgirl. These women spend a lot of time alone, and they get paid for making men feel good, and sometimes really good. They’re not all sexy models, but they’re mostly pretty and most of them are friendly. They’re mostly college-age, and they often come from small towns where there are no other jobs to be had.

The reason camgirls do what they do is as varied as the girls themselves. For some, it’s a way to earn a little extra cash while still having fun with their friends. Others – especially those who live in the US or UK – make it a career. And a few camgirls make a great living, getting enough money to pay their bills and maybe even have some left over.

Some camgirls do fetish shows, offering to perform things like foot worship or role-play with their viewers. Some have sex with each other on cam, and some participate in “tipping wars” where they compete to see who can earn the most money in one hour.

There are also some dangers involved. Scammers are common, and if a cam girl you meet starts asking you for personal information or gets aggressive, it’s probably best to walk away. If you do make a payment to a cam girl who you suspect is a scammer, report them to the platform where they’re performing.
